Social Work
This program equips you with the knowledge, skills, values, and ethical foundations for social worker practice in contemporary social policy, human service, and medical contexts.
Social Work courses are available at a Bachelor or Masters level. The Bachelor of Social Work is a 4-year program. The Master of Social Work is an academically advanced 2-year post-qualifying degree that builds on the prior knowledge and experiences that students bring to their studies.
The bachelor program allows entry for those who have completed a minimum of secondary school in their home country. The Masters of Social Work is specifically designed for graduates holding degrees with some social and behavioural science components. Students in both programs will be prepared to make a meaningful contribution to people and communities as a dynamic professional social worker.
The program develops critically reflective and analytical practitioners, equipping students with innovative knowledge and skills to undertake social action, counselling, community development, policy analysis and development, advocacy and research to work with people individually and collectively for change.
The Bachelor or Master of Social Work has been developed to provide practical skills in areas such as:
- Advanced social research
- Engaging effectively with Aboriginal people
- Ethical social work practise in complex contexts
- Mental health and social work
- Children, youth and families: challenges, critique and change
Bachelor Entry Requirements
- Completed Australian Year 12 or overseas equivalent
- English language proficiency evidence

- IELTS, PTE, etc. (IELTS: 7.0 minimum score in all bands). The test result must be valid within 2 years at the time of the visa application.
- Exemptions apply if:
– you are a citizen and hold a passport from UK, USA, Canada, NZ or Republic of Ireland
– you are enrolled in a principal course of study that is a registered school course, a standalone English Language Intensive Course for Overseas Students (ELICOS), a course registered to be delivered in a language other than English, or a registered post-graduate research course
– you have completed at least 5 years of study in English in one or more of the following countries: Australia, UK, USA, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, or the Republic of Ireland.

Masters Entry Requirements
- Applicants must hold a relevant 3-year Bachelor degree (AQF Level 7) that includes the equivalent of at least one year of full-time studies in social sciences (studies of the individual and society).
- English language proficiency evidence

Graduates will be eligible for membership to the AASW and to practice as professional social workers. Membership to the AASW enables you to apply to become a mental health accredited practitioner, which attracts a Medicare rebate for private practitioners.
